The Age Contrast

A 15-second vertical WHOOP film turns a benchmark number into a product readout through tactile, cinematic shots.

Field notes / why it works

The product enters through a real fastening action before the first cut at 1.25 s, and a large 27 benchmark makes the comparison readable without narration. The scale shifts from wrist macro to wide portrait to phone close-up, where the green 29.8 result appears at 7.6–10.2 s; a brief reaction and 2.44 s logo card finish the arc. The precise numbers on the cover and shot sheet differ, so a remake should verify and align its claims.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A quiet, high-end locker-room vignette uses a familiar physical ritual to introduce a numerical expectation. Large circular age badges create the question; a phone close-up supplies the product's different answer. The featured person and their access are specific to the reference, while the number-to-proof sequence transfers to another product.

Why it works

  • The first 1.25 s shows hands fastening a wearable before any explanation, making the object part of a plausible routine.
  • A white 27 badge appears by 1.25 s; the number remains legible over the red kit until the wider age contrast at roughly 5.4–6.0 s.
  • At 7.6–10.2 s, the film finally shows the phone's green 29.8 readout, converting the abstract claim into a tangible interface. The subject reaction at 10.2–12.6 s and black logo card at 12.6 s close the sequence.

Pace6 shots, 5 cuts, 20 cuts/min; 3 changes within shots, 32 total picture changes/min; mean shot 2.5 s
ScriptNo explanatory narration. The auto transcript reports 31 words / 175 wpm, but most detected phrases appear to be music lyrics or recognition errors (inferred); one brief spoken reaction may occur around 11.8 s.
VoiceIf retaining a human line, use a brief, natural, low-key reaction from the on-screen adult, not a presenter read.
On screenApproximately 66% person/wardrobe/wearable footage, 17% phone close-up, 16% logo card; all figures rounded from the six shot lengths.
CaptionsNone. Information is set as two sparse, uppercase graphic labels and a large phone result.
SoundMusic-led bed (inferred from the repeated lyric-like transcript); measured −13.4 LUFS integrated, −0.9 dBFS true peak. No confirmed cut SFX.
StructureRitual → benchmark → subject comparison → product proof → reaction → brand sign-off. Payoff at 7.6–10.2 s; no explicit CTA.
