Handwritten Digits Through a 3D Neural Network
A silent, continuous 3D screen recording makes digit inputs and network responses visible in one frame.
Field notes / why it works
A blank grid becomes a recognizable white zero by roughly 0:01, so the viewer sees the experiment before needing any explanation. Input, internal layers, and output stay together in one frame as new digits appear around 0:07.7, 0:09.5, 0:20.3, and 0:23.1. Eighteen detected in-shot changes across 34.8 seconds sustain progression despite zero cuts and no audio.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A silent screen recording shows a 3D neural network as a visible object: a hand-drawn digit appears on a large grid, smaller gridded layers respond, and a compact output area changes. Repeated inputs and a moving camera let the viewer infer the system from observation, without captions or explanation.
Why it works
- The opening supplies a before-and-after in under 3 s: at 0:00 the grid is empty; by 0:00.25–0:02.75 a white stroke becomes a readable zero.
- The input and response occupy the same frame. At 0:07.7 and 0:09.5, new digits appear while the smaller gridded layers and output remain in view.
- Eighteen detected visual step changes across 34.8 s (31/min), plus smooth drawing and camera motion, create progression without a single cut.
