A terminal becomes a cloud agent

A cinematic Devin for Terminal launch film turns a lone vintage computer into proof of a local-to-cloud agent workflow.

Field notes / why it works

A tiny terminal in near-black space creates a visual question at 0:00, and the spotlight answers it by 0:02 without a cut. The old-tool premise becomes a physical transformation at 0:16–0:18, then the film changes from dark metaphor to bright terminal and desktop proof at 0:27–0:45. Four measured main shots keep the composition controlled while internal changes and a monitor-wall montage make the payoff feel larger.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A cinematic product launch starts with a small, familiar tool in a nearly black room. A measured narrator links that old interface to a modern limitation, then the object opens into capability graphics, real workflow proof, and a clean product lockup. The promise starts at 0:00 as a contrast between an unchanged terminal and changing work; the product answer becomes explicit around 0:19.

Why it works

  • The first 1.5 seconds make the viewer search a black frame for a tiny computer; the spotlight and push-in reward that attention at 0:01.7–0:04.
  • The physical computer makes abstract agent software tangible. Its exploded transformation at 0:16–0:18 bridges the story into model and cloud claims at 0:23–0:31.
  • The film moves from claim to interface proof at 0:28–0:44, then uses a monitor wall to scale the idea of work continuing across machines.

Pace4 measured main shots, 3 definite cuts (3.3/min); 8 uncertain changes make an upper estimate of 12 cuts/min. 7 measured internal visual steps; first picture change 1.65 s. Mean shot 13.77 s, but the first lasts 32.75 s and contains major transformations.
Script112 spoken words · 138 wpm over the runtime, about 210 wpm while speaking · 15 short sentences averaging 7.5 words · no questions
VoiceLow-register adult narrator, assured and conversational, with quick phrases separated by deliberate gaps
On screenApproximately 55% dark staged/CG product imagery, 25% UI and screen capture, 15% bright monitor-wall scene, 5% white brand card (visual estimate from sheets)
CaptionsNo running subtitles. Large white keyword copy appears briefly around the physical product; later text lives inside terminal and app UI.
SoundContinuous tonal, cinematic bed (music-like per measurement); no confirmed individual effects. −14.2 LUFS integrated, −0.8 dBFS true peak.
StructureFamiliar object → constraint → product reveal → local/cloud handoff → parallel workflow proof → brand card; payoff at 0:40–0:45, no spoken CTA.
