A Light Ray in a Narrowing Channel

A silent math animation poses a reflection puzzle and lets an accumulating ray trace make the geometry visible.

Field notes / why it works

The opening frame states the two-outcome question and shows the full graph, so the experiment is readable at 0:00. A white ray begins moving by about 0:00.25 and leaves a persistent trail; by roughly 0:14, tightly packed reflections make the narrowing channel tangible without speech or cuts.

Plate 01 / The format in one breath

A blackboard-like mathematical diagram asks a binary question before a moving point begins its experiment. The frame stays fixed while one thin white trajectory accumulates, so viewers can compare the path against the cyan boundary and predict an outcome.

Why it works

  • The gold question is visible from 0:00, with the rule and starting point already on screen; there is no setup delay.
  • The first visible excursion arrives by about 0:00.5, while repeated floor and curve bounces multiply through 0:03–0:14.
  • At roughly 0:14 the reflections crowd near x≈4, making the narrowing geometry visible without a voiceover. The measured cut detector reports zero picture changes because only thin lines move; the sheets visibly show continuous tracing.
