Notion's Silent Dashboard Tour
A 25-second silent UI tour reveals a dashboard through a cursor-led picker, edit state, and scrolling chart grid.
Field notes / why it works
The finished dashboard appears at 0:00, so the value is visible before the workflow. A push into the view picker at 0:01.2 makes the creation path clear, and later reframes around 0:10.4, 0:15.2, and 0:21.0 reveal more chart types without breaking the continuous product tour.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A silent desktop UI demo opens on the completed result, immediately dives into the control that makes it, then widens and scrolls through the range of outputs. The promise is visible before any explanation: one database can become a glanceable dashboard of several charts and views.
Why it works
- The payoff is on screen at 0:00: a full browser window with a line chart, map, bar chart, and donut chart. No setup has to be read first.
- At 0:01.2 the digital crop moves into the view picker; the cursor hovers over “Dashboard” around 0:02–0:03, making the creation action legible.
- At roughly 0:10.4 and 0:15.2, the composition changes to reveal more of the chart grid; by 0:21–0:24 it shows another dashboard and a lower row, extending the feature beyond one example.
