A Life Through Google Interfaces
A silent brand film turns search, spreadsheets, calendars and email into a multigenerational story, with calendar bursts making years pass in seconds.
Field notes / why it works
The opening search question is readable by 0:02, and a spreadsheet soon makes its stakes personal without a narrator. Fast calendar passages at 0:20–0:25 and 0:55–1:00 compress years through two clusters of sub-second cuts; the final education budget at 1:13 echoes the opening money calculation with new family stakes.
Plate 01 / The format in one breath
A person asks a mundane question in a search field, then increasingly consequential tasks unfold across search, spreadsheets, calendars, an assistant and email. No actor or narrator explains the connection. Repeated interface patterns and dates let the viewer infer a life passing and see the product family as a quiet companion.
Why it works
- A search cursor appears at 0:00; the full practical question about rent is visible by 0:02, so the viewer immediately understands the interaction.
- Two tight calendar montages at 0:20–0:25 and 0:55–1:00 compress many years without exposition. Seven cuts land in each of those ten-second windows.
- Long tasks between those bursts make the stakes legible: a savings spreadsheet and affordability question around 0:06–0:37; a baby-name search around 0:52; a new account and education budgeting around 1:05–1:27.
